The story of Biblica

Founded in 1809 as the New York Bible Society, Biblica began by sharing God’s Word with city residents, immigrants, sailors, and soldiers. Over the years, the ministry expanded globally—sponsoring William Carey’s Bengali Bible translation, supplying Scripture to prisoners and Civil War soldiers, offering Bibles in dozens of languages to immigrants at Ellis Island, and publishing the first Braille Bible. Biblica helped provide Scripture at Billy Graham’s 1952 crusades, invested in translating the NIV released in 1978, and later distributed millions of Bibles after the fall of the Soviet Union. With digital innovation, Biblica made the NIV available online, launched Reach4Life to disciple young people in South Africa, partnered with YouVersion, and joined the Every Tribe Every Nation alliance to accelerate global Bible access. More recently, the ministry has advanced digital translation tools, released hundreds of biblical texts under Creative Commons, and fast-tracked a contemporary Ukrainian New Testament in response to the war in Ukraine. For more than 200 years, Biblica has remained committed to bringing Gospel hope to the unseen, overlooked, and unreached.
